The Crest Fiji men’s netball team has etched its name in history by winning the Men’s Nations Series in Singapore, marking their first triumph in an international tournament. In a thrilling final, Fiji staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the Australia Under-23 team 55-54 at the Jurong East Sporting Complex, successfully avenging their earlier pool stage loss of 48-60 to Australia.
During the pool stage of the tournament, Fiji demonstrated their prowess by defeating the England Trailblazers 47-36 in their opening match, surpassing New Zealand 57-38, and delivering a resounding 62-27 victory against the host nation. They capped off their pool performance with a dominant 82-20 win over Hong Kong. In the semifinals, Fiji secured their spot in the final by overcoming England decisively with a score of 62-27.
This victory is particularly significant as it is the first tour for a Fiji men’s netball team since the 2004 International Men’s Netball Championship held in Melbourne, Australia. The team’s captain, Kitione Waqavonovono, and vice-captain, Joseva Nawaqa, celebrated this historic achievement, symbolizing a new era for men’s netball in Fiji.
The success of the Crest Fiji men’s netball team not only highlights their skill and determination but also inspires future generations of athletes in the region. This victory can serve as a catalyst for the growth of men’s netball and athletic programs in Fiji, fostering a stronger sporting culture.
