Fiji Men’s 7s Team Returns Home: A Silver Celebration Awaits!

The members of the Fiji Men’s Sevens team will be honored for their achievements, as announced by Youth and Sports Minister Jese Saukuru. The men’s and women’s teams returned home today from the Paris Olympics, but they will need to wait for their rewards until the rest of Team Fiji athletes arrive back from the competition.

The Fiji Rugby Union and the government are preparing a national celebration, celebrating the men’s team which came home with a silver medal. Both teams received a warm welcome at Nadi International Airport this morning, greeted by family, friends, and relatives. They were also honored with a traditional ceremony at the Tanoa International Hotel.

Team captain Jerry Tuwai expressed disappointment in securing silver instead of gold. He indicated that he is likely to announce his retirement soon, highlighting that while they did not achieve first place, the team has set a positive example for younger generations and future Olympic aspirants.

Minister Saukuru commended the efforts of both teams during his welcome speech and reiterated his commitment to rewarding each member of the Men’s Sevens team for their hard work. The players are now set to take a well-deserved break before they begin training for the upcoming HSBC Sevens Series season.
