Waisea Nacuqu has been selected by Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s Head Coach Osea Kolinisau to join the squad for the upcoming McDonald Coral Coast 7s tournament. This marks a return for Nacuqu, who was not included in the team’s travel roster for the previous tournaments in Dubai and Cape Town.
Nacuqu, along with new additions Joseva Talacolo, Sakiusa Saqila, Tira Welagi, and Rupeni Kabu, brings fresh energy to the 12-member team, which also retains notable players such as Terio Tamani, Kavekeni Tanivanuakula, Suliano Volivoli, Filipe Sauturaga, George Bose, Joji Nasova, Vuiviwa Naduvalo, Jeremaia Matana, and veteran Sevuloni Mocenacagi. The Fiji 7s team, considered the top seed in the tournament, is placed in Pool A alongside the New Zealand Men’s team 2, the Brothers Team, and Tuva Rugby club.
The Coral Coast 7s tournament, set to kick off at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, is a crucial opportunity for the players to showcase their skills. Kolinisau has expressed a commitment to enhancing the team’s performance, focusing on critical areas such as communication, defensive strategies, and quick decision-making, while also emphasizing the need for player fitness ahead of the series.
This tournament not only serves as a testing ground for Nacuqu and the newly added players but also fortifies Fiji’s goal of maintaining a competitive edge on the international rugby 7s stage. The anticipation surrounding this event is high, with fans hopeful for strong performances that could reinstate Fiji’s dominant position in the sport.
Overall, this event highlights the continued efforts of the Fijian rugby community to nurture talent and competitive spirit, promising an exciting season ahead.
