An Australian couple, Owen Twist and his wife Christine, are delighted to be back in Fiji. They were part of the over 2,000 passengers aboard the P&O Cruises Australia cruise ship that docked in Lautoka on Monday.
The couple previously lived in Fiji during the early 1970s while serving the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Suva. “It feels so good to be back in Fiji. We were hoping to meet some of our local friends that we have reached out to through social media,” shared Mr. Twist. “We initially came for two years, but I loved the people here so much that I ended up staying for nine. I eventually had to return home, but Fiji has always occupied a special place in our hearts.”
Their daughters, who work as nurses, also spent part of their childhood in Fiji, making this return trip particularly memorable due to the family’s deep connections to the country.
The couple expressed their appreciation for the lasting relationships they developed during their time in Fiji. They purchased Fijian souvenirs, including handcrafted items from woodcarver Jone Sito.
Following their stop in Lautoka, the cruise ship is set to visit Taveuni before heading back to Sydney.
