Fuel prices across Fiji are set to decrease starting tomorrow, while prices for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will witness an increase, according to the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC). The new regulated rates for March 2026 indicate a notable drop for several fuel products.

Specifically, the price for motor spirit within three kilometers of a public road on Viti Levu will decrease by 11 cents to $2.44 per liter. Diesel will also see a reduction, dropping to $2.14, while kerosene will now cost $1.69. Similar decreases will apply to the other regions such as Vanua Levu, Ovalau, the outer islands, and Rotuma, with reductions ranging from 3 to 12 cents based on the location.

Conversely, LPG prices are on the rise. On both Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, a 4.5kg cylinder will increase by 48 cents, bringing the new price to $14.04. The price for a 12kg cylinder will rise by $1.28 to $37.45. Additionally, the cost of autogas is also set to increase, with similar adjustments for the outer islands and Rotuma.

The commission highlighted that the adjustments in fuel prices reflect the January import costs and are influenced by the one-month lag system in place. The decrease in motor fuel prices corresponds with lower international refined fuel prices and a weaker US dollar, despite the saddle of higher freight costs.

On the other hand, the rise in LPG prices can be traced to a 7.22 percent increase in the international Butane Contract Price set by Saudi Aramco, driven by global demand and tighter supply in January.

To ensure compliance with these new rates, the FCCC has announced that its enforcement teams will conduct inspections at service stations and LPG outlets, mandating that retailers adhere to the authorized maximum prices.

This shift in fuel and LPG pricing aims to provide consumers with some economic relief amid the fluctuating fuel market, showcasing the ongoing adjustments in response to global market conditions.
