A 39-year-old man from Nakasi has been charged by the Fiji Police MPAiSA task force for allegedly obtaining financial advantage. The incident is said to have occurred on January 21, 2023, when the accused reportedly deceived a member of the public into sending him $190 via a mobile money transfer platform.
Investigations by the police indicated that the victim transferred the money as a deposit for a rental car that was listed on Facebook. Following the transaction, the accused is believed to have withdrawn the funds and ceased all communication with the victim.
He is set to appear in the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
