Fiji Man Charged in $1400 Social Media Scam

A 27-year-old man from Moto, Ba, has been charged by the Fiji Police MPaisa Task Force for allegedly obtaining financial gain through deception and possessing property suspected to be proceeds of crime. The charges stem from activities between July 2023 and September 2024.

According to police, the accused reportedly created multiple Facebook accounts to sell items, receiving approximately $1,400, which was deposited into his bank account and through various mobile money transfer accounts registered in his name.

He faces six counts of obtaining financial advantage by deception and one count of possession of property believed to be proceeds of crime. The man is scheduled to appear in the Nadi Magistrate Court today.
