A 52-year-old man has been charged by the Fiji Police Force’s M-Paisa Taskforce for allegedly obtaining financial benefits through deception. The incident reportedly occurred on September 8, 2023, when the accused is accused of fraudulently acquiring $100 from a victim via the M-Paisa service.
According to police investigations, the victim was browsing Facebook when he encountered a post regarding car rental services. Following instructions, he paid a deposit to reserve a vehicle; however, he was unable to reach the driver afterward. After the incident, the victim reported the matter to the Consumer Council, which subsequently forwarded the case to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Fiji Police Force in Suva.
The accused is scheduled to appear in Nasinu Magistrates Court later today.
