Fiji Lightweight Mohamed Ali Steps In for Last-Minute Title Shot at Vodafone Arena

FIJI lightweight boxer Mohamed Ali has stepped in as a last-minute replacement for Jese Ravudi against Sunny Morini from New Zealand for tonight’s Stratum Construction ZEG Kings Boxing Promotion at the Vodafone Arena. Ali was called upon to fill this role after Ravudi withdrew from the title fight earlier this week.

Ali last fought on February 22 against Mikaele Ravalaca, where he faced a tough challenge for the vacant lightweight title at the Bluewater Boxing Promotion in Suva. Despite a valiant effort, he lost that bout by a second-round technical knockout (TKO). However, he remains undeterred and is eager to seize this new opportunity.

Having only been offered the fight on Monday, Ali acknowledges that he has had minimal preparation time. Yet, he is determined to give his best performance against his first international opponent. “I’ll try my best, let’s see how long it goes. This will be my first international opponent, and I was called in last minute without any time for training,” he shared.

Demonstrating true sportsmanship, Ali stated he did not refuse the last-minute offer because he saw it as a significant opportunity to make his mark in the ring. “It’s going to be very hard; he will be bringing his best, but I’m Mohamed Ali, and I will give my best fight too,” he confidently declared.

The excitement around this matchup is palpable, and it reflects a positive outlook for boxing in Fiji. Ali’s willingness to step up, despite the challenges, showcases the spirit of determination and resilience that is characteristic of athletes in the region. As spectators look forward to the action at the Vodafone Arena tonight, the event promises not only thrilling competition but also highlights the growing enthusiasm for boxing in Fiji. Fans can expect a night filled with vibrant competition and local pride, with Ali showing the heart and determination needed in such a high-stakes environment.
