The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first institution in Fiji and the South Pacific to acquire and operate the Quantum Systems Trinity Pro, one of the world’s most advanced surveying drones. This innovative technology was recently employed for a high-resolution survey of the Seaqaqa rainforest, conducted by TLTB’s certified drone pilot, Isireli Buwawa.

Equipped with cutting-edge LiDAR and 3D mapping technology, the drone was able to capture detailed images of the terrain and forest features in just one hour—a task that would typically require several weeks to complete. TLTB’s Chief Executive, Solomone Nata, highlighted that this advancement in technology will significantly enhance land management and digital transformation, aiding landowners in making smarter and more sustainable decisions regarding their land.

This initiative aligns with TLTB’s ongoing commitment to improving land registration and management practices in Fiji. The Ministry of Lands has also made progress by approving a substantial number of survey plans beyond initial targets, as it seeks to elevate land management standards through modern technology, including GPS and drones.

Such advancements in land surveying and management underscore a hopeful future for landowners and indigenous communities in Fiji. Enhanced accuracy and efficiency in surveying could lead to better governance, improved resource management, and greater economic opportunities. Additionally, this focus on leveraging technology for sustainable development promises to strengthen community empowerment and environmental conservation in Fiji.

The integration of advanced drone technology into land management practices not only showcases the innovation within Fiji but also aims to foster responsible stewardship of natural resources, which is vital for both economic growth and ecological sustainability.
