Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Raijeli Taga, represented Fiji at the 55th Meeting of the Committee of Representatives of Governments and Administrations (CRGA 55) held in the Kingdom of Tonga from October 14-15, 2025. This annual event gathered senior officials from the 27 countries and territories that are part of the Pacific Community (SPC) to evaluate its work and strategize regional priorities.
The CRGA 55 gathering precedes the 14th Conference of the Pacific Community, which will be hosted from October 16-17, centered around the theme “Pasifiki: Rooted in Heritage, Honouring the Past, United for a Resilient Future.”
In her remarks, Dr. Taga reaffirmed Fiji’s dedication to the Pacific Community and the advancement of shared objectives within the region. She commended SPC’s ongoing initiatives that focus on fostering sustainable development, regional solidarity, and resilience throughout the Pacific.
“Fiji remains deeply committed to the SPC and to our shared vision of a resilient, sustainable, and united Pacific,” Dr. Taga stated. She emphasized the importance of such forums in celebrating progress while reinforcing the resolve to protect the region’s people, cultures, and environments.
The meeting highlighted key regional priorities including climate resilience, sustainable ocean management, human development, and inclusive growth, all of which are fundamental to the Pacific’s unified approach and collaborative efforts.
Fiji’s involvement in these critical discussions underscores its commitment to addressing pressing challenges such as climate change and enhancing regional unity, reflecting its proactive role in the Pacific Community. Engaging with neighboring nations on these issues not only strengthens Fiji’s diplomatic ties but contributes positively to collective action aimed at achieving sustainable development goals across the Pacific region.
As part of a continuing trend, Fiji is being recognized for its leadership and commitment to addressing climate issues, which resonates with current discussions and initiatives within the broader Pacific framework. This cooperation signifies a hopeful outlook for the future as Pacific nations work together to confront environmental challenges and foster resilience.
