Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu and Fiji Revenue Customs Service chief executive Udit Singh have praised the recent collaboration between their agencies as a significant demonstration of effectiveness in the fight against drug trafficking. This commendation follows the seizure of four kilograms of methamphetamine at Nadi Airport, which was facilitated by a joint inspection of cargo that arrived in the country.

Following the incident, which also involved the arrest of a police officer who allegedly sought personal gain through corrupt practices, Commissioner Tudravu affirmed that a full-scale investigation is underway to identify all individuals linked to the illegal drug trade. He emphasized a strict zero-tolerance policy towards those who abuse their positions of authority for illicit purposes.

“This accomplishment illustrates the power of unity among law enforcement entities. Our joint mission is crucial for the safety of our people and borders,” remarked Tudravu. “This outcome sends a strong message that Fiji will not serve as a refuge for drug traffickers.”

In a similar vein, Udit Singh commended the dedication and professionalism of the frontline officers, attributing the successful interception to the intelligence and surveillance capabilities of Customs officers, as well as the strengthened partnership with the Fiji Police Force. He stated, “Together, we are taking decisive action to dismantle drug networks operating at our borders.”

All three individuals arrested from this operation have been charged with unlawful importation of illicit drugs, with one facing additional charges related to possession of suspected proceeds of crime. The authorities’ ongoing commitment to combatting drug trafficking has been reflected in recent months, which saw multiple significant seizures, highlighting the continuous collaboration between the Fiji Police and Customs agencies.

This proactive approach showcases not only a response to recent challenges surrounding drug trafficking but also signals a hopeful outlook for a safer Fiji. The dedicated work of law enforcement serves to foster a secure environment for communities, reinforcing their commitment to public safety. As investigations progress, there is optimism that sustained joint efforts will continue to disrupt drug distribution networks and significantly enhance security across the region.
