The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Fiji has teamed up with the Fiji Police Force to launch a collaborative operation aimed at enhancing road safety and enforcement measures over the next two months. This initiative was formalized during a press conference at the LTA Headquarters in Valelevu, where both agencies signed an operation order that will direct coordinated enforcement activities throughout March and April.
LTA Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa highlighted that this joint operation will specifically target compliance with traffic laws, address dangerous driving behaviors, and ensure that public transport operators adhere to established safety standards. The partnership is expected to boost visibility on the roads, with officers from both the LTA and the Fiji Police Force conducting checkpoints, inspections, and public awareness campaigns.
Rokosawa noted that this operation is strategically aligned with significant school sporting competitions and national events, coinciding with increased inter-island travel to urban areas, which is expected to surge traffic volumes. He emphasized the importance of compliance with traffic regulations and warned motorists and transport operators that enforcement will be intensified during this period.
This proactive measure is part of the broader effort to reduce road accidents and foster safer driving practices across Fiji, aiming to create a safer environment for all road users. The collaboration between the LTA and the Fiji Police Force signifies a commitment to making Fiji’s roads safer for everyone.
