Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) has launched its Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) services, a state-of-the-art treatment designed to assist patients with chronic wounds, burns, decompression sickness, and diabetic foot ulcers. The inauguration event took place at PSH in Nadi and was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad.

The facility offers a Hyperbaric Chamber that operates around the clock, with the aim of expediting recovery times while significantly lowering the necessity for amputations—a pressing issue in Fiji, attributed to high rates of diabetes-related complications. Professor Prasad highlighted the gravity of the situation, noting that a staggering one amputation occurs every 12 hours in Fiji. He stressed the urgent need for improvement, stating, “We need to change that,” and referred to the launch of HBOT as a significant advancement for health outcomes in the country.

This new therapy service is not only geared toward the citizens of Fiji but is also expected to draw patients from neighboring Pacific Island nations, establishing Fiji as a healthcare leader in the region. The HBOT treatment promises to decrease recovery times and enhance patient outcomes, contributing to the overall well-being of the population.

Professor Prasad emphasized the government’s commitment to bolstering healthcare infrastructure, with the introduction of HBOT being a testament to this. He also pointed out the potential for partnerships with other regional healthcare providers, positioning Fiji as a destination for medical tourism, which could further elevate its status in advanced healthcare services.

In addition to the HBOT services, the launch event also featured the introduction of the Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) Loyalty Program, which provides discounts on healthcare services for active cane growers in Fiji. This initiative reflects a commitment to supporting the sugar farming community by ensuring access to affordable healthcare, especially in rural areas.

Moreover, Professor Prasad assured that the Coalition Government is diligently modernizing Fiji’s healthcare landscape, marked by key projects such as the Indian Government-funded 100-bed super-specialty hospital and significant upgrades to the CWM Hospital.

He asserted that healthcare remains a critical priority in their developmental agenda, stating, “By investing in healthcare infrastructure and advanced treatments, we are ensuring a healthier future for all Fijians.”

With the launch of HBOT and the SCGF Loyalty Program, PSH is solidifying its role as a frontrunner in healthcare innovation, committed to improving access to cutting-edge treatments and promoting the health of Fiji’s populace.

This development marks a hopeful future for healthcare in Fiji, reflecting a community-focused approach that prioritizes health improvements for both local residents and neighboring Pacific Islands, fostering a collaborative regional healthcare environment.
