Fiji Launches Nationwide 5G Network to Accelerate Connectivity and Growth

The 5G network in Fiji is officially operational, marking a significant development in the country’s telecommunications landscape. Minister for Policing and Communications, Iowane Naivalurua, inaugurated the Telecom Fiji Limited (TFL) nationwide 5G network this morning at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.

Naivalurua emphasized that this technological advancement will not only enhance connectivity among the Fijian people but will also empower various industries and serve as a catalyst for ongoing innovation and inclusivity. He described the implementation of 5G as a transformative leap that will alter the operational, innovative, and growth dynamics of Fiji over the coming decade.

The network launch aligns with the government’s strategic focus on digital transformation and enhancing national connectivity. TFL’s CEO, Charles Goundar, praised the 5G network as a significant stride towards ushering in a new era defined by increased speed, intelligence, and greater capabilities for the citizens of Fiji.

The rollout of Telecom Fiji’s 5G network will occur in two distinct phases. The first phase will deliver high-capacity 5G coverage to key urban areas such as Suva, Nadi, Lautoka, and Denarau, in accordance with the Ministry’s national strategy. Additionally, areas including Navua, Nausori, and Nasinu will also see early access to the network, showcasing Telecom’s dedication to making advanced technology available to more Fijians.

Following this, the second phase will broaden the network’s reach to additional towns and regions across Fiji, adhering to the Ministry’s comprehensive rollout roadmap. This development is expected to significantly enhance the digital landscape in Fiji, fostering economic growth and connecting communities more effectively than ever before.
