Around 40 individuals from various sporting organizations and clubs across Fiji have convened in Suva for a four-day leadership training program aimed at enhancing community sports leadership. This initiative is part of the Certified Leadership Course in Sport for All, designed to build capacity within local communities.

According to Peter Mazey, Executive Chair of the Fiji National Sports Commission, participants will be equipped to implement community-based sports projects that promote inclusivity and sustainable development in sports within their respective regions. Mazey emphasized this effort’s collaboration with the Oceania National Olympic Committee (ONOC) and TAFISA, the global organization dedicated to sports for all. The funding for this leadership course has been raised through these partnerships.

The training program was officially launched by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, and is scheduled to take place at the HFC Bank Stadium for three more days.

This initiative resonates with other recent efforts in Fiji to promote sports development at various levels. For example, the ongoing National Sporting Organisations Conference is addressing several important topics, including governance and youth development in sports, which was highlighted during its sessions led by prominent figures in the sporting community. These integrated efforts reflect a broader commitment to creating a strong and supportive environment for sporting activities across Fiji.

The proactive steps taken by organizations like the Fiji National Sports Commission and its partners signal a hopeful trajectory for sports in the country. By investing in leadership training and community projects, Fiji is paving the way for a more inclusive and engaged sports culture, reinforcing the vital role sports play in uniting communities and fostering growth among athletes.
