This modern vessel, commissioned by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, represents a substantial investment aimed at enhancing oceanic research and protecting the country’s precious marine resources.
Equipped with advanced scientific survey tools, the ‘Yau Dikevi’ is designed to function as a floating laboratory. Prime Minister Rabuka noted its capabilities, stating, “Though it may not be large, it has the cutting-edge, state-of-the-art equipment to get the job done.” The vessel will allow scientists to conduct critical studies, including marine geology and coastal surveys, ocean floor mapping, and analysis of vulnerable coastal areas, to aid communities impacted by climate change.
