The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) and the Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport (MPWMST) have jointly launched a new Anti-Bribery Campaign at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Samabula. This initiative aims to raise awareness about corruption while encouraging integrity within public service.
During the launch, FICAC’s Manager for Corruption Prevention, Ms. Kolora Naliva, emphasized the significance of leadership in combating corruption. She implored executive management to take an active role in this public integrity campaign and the subsequent training sessions that will be organized. “Setting a strong tone from the top is vital and must be reinforced at all levels of the Ministry,” Naliva stated.
The Permanent Secretary for MPWMST, Mr. Paula Baleilevuka, reflected positively on the collaboration with FICAC and underscored the necessity of understanding corruption policies and best practices. “It is crucial for both the Ministry and individuals to understand how FICAC can support the delivery of our responsibilities. I want my team to understand corruption and the policy on accepting gifts. We aim to continue learning with FICAC,” he noted.
The upcoming training sessions will further promote public integrity and raise awareness of corruption issues within the Ministry. This proactive approach is aimed at fostering a culture of transparency and accountability within the public sector, ultimately benefiting the citizens of Fiji.
Overall, this campaign demonstrates a strong commitment to uphold ethical standards in governance and public service. It serves as a hopeful step towards creating a corruption-free environment in Fiji.
