The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways has officially announced the opening of entries for the 2025 National Agriculture Show Farmers Awards, inviting farmers from across Fiji to exhibit their dedication, innovation, and commitment to sustainable agricultural practices. This initiative aims to honor farmers who have shown a significant and consistent improvement in their farming techniques over the past two years.
The awards will cover multiple categories, including Flower Arrangement, Commodity Awards, and Special Awards. However, it is important to note that winners from the last five years will not be eligible for re-entry.
Farmers wishing to participate must fill out the official entry form and submit supporting documentation. A valid form of identification—like a Joint FRCS/FNPF ID, Voter ID, or Driver’s License—is also required. The deadline for all entries is set for **16 July 2025**.
To be eligible for these awards, farmers must have been engaged in crop or livestock farming, or any agri-business for a minimum of two years and must provide proof of their production and sales through proper record-keeping. Additional required documents include a birth certificate or valid ID, lease titles for those farming on leased land, an endorsement letter from the Turaga ni Koro for those farming on mataqali land, certificates from agricultural training programs, and evidence of market outlets where their products are sold. Farmers are encouraged to submit any extra information that could strengthen their applications.
The Ministry emphasizes that this initiative serves as a valuable opportunity to celebrate excellence within the grassroots farming community, stimulate agricultural innovation, and promote best practices throughout the sector. A QR code will be provided for easy online access to the official application form.
This call for entries aligns with the themes being highlighted at the ongoing National Agriculture Show, which similarly focuses on recognizing and empowering farmers. It’s a time for the agricultural community to unite and showcase their contributions, further promoting food security and economic growth in Fiji.
These awards not only recognize outstanding achievements in farming but also aim to inspire future generations to view agriculture as a viable and rewarding career. By participating, farmers can not only learn from each other but also contribute to a stronger agricultural base that supports the Fijian economy.
