The application period for the 2025 Back-to-School Support program has officially begun, emphasizing the Fijian Government’s dedication to financially assisting families facing educational costs. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, highlighted the initiative’s objective to alleviate the financial burdens on low-income families, stating, “No child should miss out because of financial difficulties.”

This program, now running for its third consecutive year, has already allocated $87 million to aid families throughout Fiji. In the most recent budget, approximately $42.5 million was distributed, benefiting over 212,740 students. For the upcoming 2024-2025 fiscal year, the government has earmarked $40 million specifically for families with a combined annual income of $50,000 or less, extending support from Early Childhood Education through Year 13.

Professor Prasad underscored the intention to simplify the application process for families, with forms accessible both at schools and online. He encouraged teachers and school administrators to assist parents with completing and submitting applications promptly.

Notably, the service fee for this initiative will be covered by the government, ensuring that every family receives the full $200 support. Payments will be facilitated through mobile platforms like Vodafone M-PAiSA and Digicel MyCASH, with additional support from Post Fiji for families located in remote areas.

Applications opened today and will be accepted until December 6, 2024, paving the way for a brighter educational experience for countless children across Fiji.

This initiative not only aims to provide immediate financial relief but also underscores a broader commitment to educational equity in Fiji, fostering a more inclusive environment for future generations.
