Fiji National University (FNU) has inaugurated the $15 million Pacific Centre for Maritime Studies (PCMS) in Suva, designed to enhance education, research, and innovation within the maritime industry. The center will emphasize sustainability and contribute to the Pacific Blue Economy.

During the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka underscored the significance of integrating traditional navigation practices with contemporary technology, aiming to nurture the next generation of maritime leaders.

FNU Vice Chancellor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba highlighted the center’s mission to support national initiatives such as the Pacific Blue Ocean 2050 strategy, promoting international collaborations and updating curricula to align with market demands. Additionally, partnerships are being formed, including one with Fiji Water, to further strengthen this initiative.
