During the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka emphasized the importance of the center in merging traditional navigation techniques with contemporary technology, aiming to cultivate the next generation of maritime leaders.

FNU Vice Chancellor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba highlighted that the center aligns with national strategies, particularly the Pacific Blue Ocean 2050 initiative, to promote global partnerships and update educational curriculums to align with industry requirements. Collaborations are currently being established, including one with Fiji Water, signaling a proactive approach to enhancing resource and sustainability practices in the maritime sector.

This initiative reflects a significant step forward for Fiji, positioning the country as a key player in sustainable maritime practices while honoring its rich navigational heritage. The combination of innovative education and practical partnerships could yield positive outcomes for both local and international maritime industries, fostering growth in the Pacific Blue Economy.

Such developments not only promise to enhance the skillset of future maritime leaders but also underline the importance of sustainability and environmental consciousness in the ever-evolving maritime field.
