The Fiji Labour Party (FLP) is urging the government to disclose the findings of the minimum wage review committee’s report. FLP leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, insists that the report should be made available to the public. The review was conducted over seven weeks by four local academics, led by Professor Anand Chand of Fiji National University. However, despite the Finance Minister, Biman Prasad, asserting that the determined $5 minimum wage was established based on the review and consultations, the report’s results were not disclosed. Chaudhry argues this report is critical in understanding the methodology behind the new $4.50 minimum wage, effective from August 1st, due to the ongoing controversy surrounding it. He also urged Labour Minister Agni Deo to reveal the fees paid to the consultants for their services, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability, given that taxpayer money funded this report.
