Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry expressed grave concerns about the current state of the government, describing it as lacking morality and decency, and increasingly dysfunctional. During his speech at the Annual Delegates Conference 2024 held in Nadi, he highlighted the serious issues plaguing the economy and the growing social distress faced by the people of Fiji.
Chaudhry emphasized that the Labour Party has been a steadfast voice for the opposition, often standing alone in challenging the government’s decisions. He shared the party’s intention to strategize their path leading up to the next election in 2026, indicating that now is a crucial time for Labour’s involvement in politics.
He pointed out Labour’s nearly forty-year commitment to serving the citizens of Fiji, recalling the successes achieved during the Labour governments of 1987 and 1999, albeit brief. Chaudhry affirmed the party’s dedication to compassion and sensitivity towards the people’s needs, pledging to remain resolute in the face of challenges.
