The Fiji Labour Party has stated that if the findings of the Commission of Inquiry into Barbara Malimali’s appointment indicate that the process was manipulated, then the appointment should be revoked and those responsible must be held accountable.
Former Prime Minister and FLP Leader Mahendra Chaudhry emphasized that if the inquiry concludes that proper procedures were not followed and a predetermined outcome was achieved, the appointment should be dismissed.
Chaudhry’s remarks followed the Prime Minister’s comments in the media, asserting, “We cannot change the decision, we cannot change the process.”
He stressed the importance of maintaining the integrity of independent constitutional offices to ensure public trust. Chaudhry pointed out that the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption serves as a safeguard against corruption and should not be influenced by compromised processes in the appointments of its officials.
He reiterated that there should be no exceptions to the principles of good governance.
