The Fiji Kulas women’s football team is ramping up preparations for the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Women’s Nations Cup, set to take place from July 4 to July 19, 2025. With aspirations to win their first title in the tournament’s history, the team is engaging in two training sessions per day under head coach Angeline Chua, who is focused on elevating the team’s performance.

Fiji has a history of narrowly missing the championship, with their closest opportunity being in 2022, where they lost 2-1 in the final against Papua New Guinea. This year, they aim to compete fiercely within Group B alongside the Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Vanuatu. Fiji’s first match will kick off on July 5 against the Solomon Islands, followed by subsequent matches against Tonga on July 8 and Vanuatu on July 11. The semi-finals are scheduled for July 16, culminating in the final on July 19.

The squad will feature notable players including Trina Davis, a forward based in the USA who was a standout in the last tournament, as well as other international talents. A strong showing from these players is expected to bolster Fiji’s competitive edge. Moreover, as hosts, they are motivated to perform well and aim for a significant increase in their FIFA ranking, currently at 71, in preparation for next year’s World Cup Qualifiers.

The rise of women’s football in Oceania is evident, with heightened interest and participation in recent years. Fiji’s hosting of the tournament serves not only as a platform for athletes to showcase their skills but also symbolizes the nation’s commitment to women’s sports. This event is anticipated to inspire a new generation of female footballers in the region, contributing to the growing recognition and support for women in athletics.

The upcoming competition represents hope and opportunity for Fiji, as the Kulas strive to make history and propel women’s football further into the spotlight. Fans eagerly await to see if the team can seize this chance and bring home their first OFC title.
