Fiji Kulas head coach Angeline Chua is intensifying her focus on defense as the team prepares to face Tonga in their second pool match of the 2025 OFC Women’s Nations Cup. The match is scheduled for today at 7 PM at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

In their opening match against the Solomon Islands, Fiji achieved a narrow 3-2 victory; however, Chua acknowledged that the team’s performance was not without its challenges from the start. She emphasized the need to build on their previous performance as they approach this critical matchup in Group B.

Tonga, conversely, is eager to seek its first win after being defeated 3-0 by Vanuatu in their inaugural game. Chua highlighted the importance of player rotation during the tournament, noting, “We have five games and playing 90 minutes, so you will see a lot of rotation as we want to give everyone a chance to play.”

Chua also mentioned that Trina Davis would be absent due to illness, and the team wishes her a speedy recovery. Training has focused on maintaining the motivation of substitutes, ensuring they are well-prepared to step into the game when needed.

Additionally, fans are encouraged to continue their support as the Kulas aim to leverage their recent win and capitalize on home advantage in what could be a transformative tournament for women’s football in Fiji. The enthusiasm surrounding the event reflects an increasing interest in the sport, which promises to inspire a new generation of female athletes.

Given the recent trajectory of women’s football in Fiji, today’s match against Tonga represents not only a chance for the Kulas to secure vital points but also to continue building momentum as strong contenders in the tournament while fostering growth and recognition for women’s sports in the region.
