The Fiji Kula women’s football team is bolstering its lineup with the addition of US-based player Trina Davis and five other international talents in preparation for the upcoming OFC Women’s Nations Cup. The training camp will be held at the Fiji Football Academy in Ba, where Davis, who previously represented Fiji at the 2023 Pacific Games, will join the squad and bring her attacking experience.
Among the new recruits are Papua New Guinea players Adi Litia Bakaniceva and Maria Veronica, New Zealand’s star striker Cema Nasau, and goalkeeper Ka’iulani Scott. Additionally, other players from the United States, including Akanisa Sorovakarua, Aliana Vakaloloma, and Anisha Dwarika, will be joining the camp soon.
Fiji Kula’s head coach, Angeline Chua, emphasizes the importance of integrating both local and overseas players into the squad, as their diverse experiences and exposure are crucial for the team’s preparations heading into the tournament slated between July 4 and July 19 at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, as well as Churchill Park in Lautoka. This mix of talents is expected to enhance team synergy and performance as they work towards the final squad announcement closer to the opening match.
The inclusion of international players reflects Fiji’s commitment to advancing women’s football, a sentiment echoed in previous training sessions which have emphasized teamwork, strategy, and player development. The upcoming tournament serves as an opportunity not only for competition but also to inspire aspiring female footballers across the nation, reinforcing a hopeful future for women’s sports in Fiji.
With concentrated efforts and a blend of experienced players and rising stars, the Fiji Kulas are set on a promising path to achieve success in women’s football on the international stage.
