Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel is calling on fans to turn out in large numbers to support the national women’s football team, the Fiji Kula, as they begin their campaign in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Oceania Qualifiers. The matches will take place at the 4R Stadium, Govind Park in Ba, starting tomorrow.
Patel emphasized the significance of the moment, highlighting that the entrance to all matches will be free. He stated that this initiative is designed to encourage maximum attendance, particularly among families and friends of the players, and create a supportive atmosphere as the Kulas strive for a historic spot in the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
This qualifying campaign is particularly notable as it marks the first tournament under the guidance of the team’s new head coach. “This is a big moment for women’s football in Fiji and we want the whole nation to be part of it,” Patel remarked. He expressed hope that free entry would attract families, young girls, and football enthusiasts to cheer for the team.
The Kulas will kick off their qualifying journey against New Caledonia on Friday at 4 PM. Following that match, they are set to face Papua New Guinea on March 2, and Vanuatu on March 5, making this an exciting time for women’s football in Fiji. The community’s support could play a crucial role in motivating the players as they embark on this significant journey.
