The Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) has launched the FIFA Football for Schools (F4S) program at four primary schools in Rotuma, aiming to create better educational and developmental opportunities for local youth through the sport of football. This initiative is spearheaded by Technical Director Timo Jankowski and involves schools including Malha’a, Paptea, Motusa, and Christ the King Primary.
Students at these schools, both boys and girls, demonstrated their enthusiasm and teamwork during the sessions, engaging in activities tailored by the program. To facilitate their participation, Fiji FA has equipped each school with essential football gear, ensuring that students are well-prepared.
This new program builds upon previous successful implementations across Fiji, which have reached over 160 schools, even in remote areas such as Yasawa, Kadavu, and Levuka. Recently, the Fiji FA team distributed more than 1,600 footballs and additional training equipment, stressing their dedication to fostering physical activity and life skills through sports.
The FIFA Football for Schools initiative is part of a global partnership with UNESCO, aimed at incorporating football into school systems to enhance education and health for children worldwide. Beyond just physical education, this program seeks to instill values like teamwork, discipline, and social interaction—all essential for personal development.
In conjunction with similar initiatives, such as the School Holiday Football Development Programme, the Fiji FA is committed to creating a brighter future for young athletes. These programs not only enhance community involvement but also provide a safe space for children to cultivate a lifelong passion for football.
The introduction of the F4S curriculum in Rotuma marks an important milestone in nurturing the next generation of sports talent in Fiji. As these programs grow, they not only improve physical well-being but also strengthen community ties, ensuring the sport continues to flourish among youth. This initiative reflects a hopeful trajectory for the development of sports in the region, providing invaluable resources and opportunities for the island’s children.
