Fiji Junior Kulas Keep Semifinal Dreams Alive with Victory Over Cook Islands

The Digicel Fiji Junior Kulas achieved their first victory at the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship, defeating the Cook Islands 2-0 in Suva yesterday. This win was vital for maintaining their hopes of reaching the semi-finals.

Sisilia Tuvou Kuladina and Grace Lakavutu were the goal scorers for Fiji, with Kuladina also providing a crucial assist. Fiji took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Despite a strong performance from the Cook Islands in the second half, which included several saves by their goalkeeper, Fiji held onto their lead. This result positions Fiji in second place in Group A, while the Cook Islands prepare for their final group match against Tonga.

Fiji needs a victory against Samoa on Saturday to secure the top spot in their group. The match against Samoa is scheduled for 3 PM at the HFC Bank Stadium. A draw or win for Samoa would allow them to advance to the semi-finals as the group winner.

The top two teams from the tournament will earn the opportunity to represent Oceania at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Qatar next year.
