An advertisement for the position of Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has been retracted following legal counsel, according to a statement from the Judicial Services Commission (JSC). The initial advertisement was published on January 10, 2026, in both The Fiji Times and the Fiji Sun, but has now been deemed invalid.

The JSC announced in a public notice that the advertisement should be disregarded, indicating that the retraction came as a surprise to some within the commission. The body confirmed that the decision to withdraw the advertisement was made after receiving legal advice, but chose not to disclose specific details regarding the reasons for this legal guidance.

The official withdrawal notice, dated January 16, 2026, emphasized the urgency of the decision, stating, “The Judicial Services Commission advises that the advertisement published on 10 January 2026 in The Fiji Times and the Fiji Sun, inviting applications for the position of Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption, is hereby withdrawn and should be disregarded.”

The JSC has indicated that additional announcements will be made in the future if deemed necessary. This move underscores the importance of following proper procedures within governmental and judicial bodies, highlighting the complexities often involved in the recruitment for significant positions within public office.
