The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) convened today to deliberate on the High Court’s order concerning Barbara Malimali, the former Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).

During the meeting, the JSC invited all relevant parties to engage in discussions regarding the ruling issued by Justice Dane Tuiqereqere. Justice Tuiqereqere’s decision clarified that the JSC holds the exclusive legal authority to provide recommendations to the President regarding the appointment or removal of the FICAC Commissioner, thereby limiting the Prime Minister’s influence in this matter.

All involved parties have agreed to reconvene on March 25th. Following this meeting, the JSC is expected to announce its decision on or before March 31st.

The JSC has reiterated its dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that its decisions reflect independence and integrity. This commitment reinforces the importance of maintaining a transparent and accountable judicial process in Fiji.
