Members of the media community convened over the weekend for a counseling session led by Elenoa Lesuma, a counselor based in Australia. This event, organized by the Fijian Media Association in collaboration with BBC Media Action, aimed to emphasize the significance of ‘self-time’ for journalists, encouraging them to process and heal from the trauma often encountered in their line of work.

During the session, Mrs. Lesuma highlighted the vital role that journalists play in society, serving not only as informers of the public but also as witnesses to critical events that can be emotionally taxing. She underscored the necessity for media professionals to prioritize their mental health and well-being, ensuring they are equipped to continue their essential duties effectively.

The gathering provided an opportunity for attendees to engage with peers, share experiences, and develop strategies for self-care, fostering a supportive network within the industry. This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the mental health challenges faced by journalists and aims to bolster resilience among them in the face of adversity.
