Fiji will make its mark at the inaugural Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children in Bogotá, Colombia, with the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya, leading the delegation. Accompanying her are Child Advisor Natalie Siegel-Brown and Director of Children Arieta Tagivetaua.

During the conference, Minister Tabuya plans to advocate for the Fijian government’s commitment to combatting violence against children while highlighting the benefits of care blogs, an initiative gaining traction in Colombia. These care blogs serve as safe spaces for caregivers and working individuals to take a respite from their daily challenges.

“Bogotá, with its population of over 4 million, has created care blogs that provide much-needed relief for caregivers and essential services for the most vulnerable,” Tabuya noted. “These facilities cater not only to children but also to seniors and individuals with disabilities, enabling caregivers to better manage their responsibilities.”

Minister Tabuya expressed her aspiration to introduce similar initiatives in Fiji, emphasizing the importance of such programs for the well-being of the nation’s working class and those caring for patients with chronic illnesses. “I hope to bring back a transformation that will benefit our society in a holistic manner,” she added.

By bringing these insightful programs into the spotlight, Fiji is taking actionable steps towards a future where children can grow up in safer environments, supported by structures recognizing the needs of caregivers and vulnerable populations.

This conference presents a valuable opportunity for Fiji to learn from successful international practices, fostering hope for improvements in child protection and community support within the nation.
