The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), in collaboration with the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, has launched a new initiative for Diwali that emphasizes sustainable practices. This initiative aims to increase consumer awareness in line with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards.
The two organizations are disseminating regular messages that promote actions such as waste reduction, energy and water conservation, ethical shopping, and environmentally friendly practices. They are committed to ensuring that their messaging highlights the importance of sustainability.
According to Joel Abraham, the CEO of FCCC, this partnership demonstrates a commitment to creating an inclusive, ethical, and eco-friendly marketplace for Fijians. He noted that the initiative particularly focuses on addressing cultural and religious needs during this significant occasion, emphasizing the importance of celebrating Diwali in a sustainable manner.
Dhirendra Nand, the National President of the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, remarked that this collaboration symbolizes a shared commitment to ESG goals and presents a chance to raise awareness about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He believes that this celebration can serve as a platform for promoting environmental stewardship and the adoption of sustainable practices alongside spiritual reflection.
Nand added that the goal is to inspire positive change that transcends the Diwali festivities, promoting continuous advocacy for sustainability and responsible consumption.
This initiative serves as a beacon of hope, reinforcing the idea that cultural celebrations can align with environmental responsibility. By fostering awareness and ethical practices, Fijians can enjoy their traditions while playing a part in nurturing the planet for future generations.
