Fiji is set to play a significant role in the upcoming parliamentary elections and national referendum in Bangladesh as part of a high-level international election monitoring mission announced by the Commonwealth. Miliana Iga Ramatanivai, the Coordinator of the Pacific Youth Council, will represent Fiji in the Commonwealth Observer Group, marking an important moment for Fiji’s involvement in regional and international democratic processes.

Leading the Observer Group will be former Ghanaian president Nana Akufo-Addo, who brings a wealth of experience to the task. He will be accompanied by a diverse team of experts from various Commonwealth nations, each bringing unique perspectives from fields such as politics, law, media, gender, and election administration.

The Commonwealth Observer Group will focus on ensuring that the elections and the national referendum in Bangladesh are conducted with integrity, transparency, and inclusivity, adhering to both the country’s legal framework and its international obligations. This mission not only underscores the Commonwealth’s commitment to supporting democratic governance globally but also showcases Fiji’s advancing involvement in these critical efforts, contributing to a more robust political culture in the region.
