Motorists in Fiji will experience higher fuel costs starting today, as the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced updated regulated fuel and gas prices for January 2026. Effective from January 1, 2026, the prices for Unleaded Petrol, Premix, Kerosene, and Diesel have all increased.
Unleaded Petrol will now cost $2.61 per litre, which is a four-cent rise from the previous month. Similarly, Premix has also seen a four-cent increase, bringing its price to $2.45 per litre. Kerosene experienced the most significant percentage increase, rising by nine cents to $1.86 per litre, while Diesel has gone up by eight cents, reaching $2.35 per litre.
In a more positive turn for households using LPG gas, all LPG products have decreased in price this month. The cost of a 4.5kg LPG cylinder is now $13.33, a reduction of 29 cents, while a 12kg cylinder has dropped by 78 cents to $35.55. Additionally, bulk LPG prices have fallen by six cents per kilogram, and Autogas is now priced at $1.88 per litre after a four-cent reduction.
The FCCC attributes the rise in fuel prices primarily to higher international refined fuel rates, increased freight costs, and a weakening US dollar, reflecting the situation of fuel imports from November 2025, in line with Fiji’s one-month lag pricing system. Conversely, the decrease in LPG prices is largely influenced by a drop in the international Butane Contract Price, despite some upward pressure from freight costs and a lower exchange rate.
In an effort to ensure compliance with the new authorized prices, the FCCC has stated that enforcement teams will be conducting inspections across the nation at service stations and outlets. This proactive approach aims to maintain fairness and transparency in the pricing of fuel and gas for consumers.
