Fiji Inmates’ Hunger Strike Raises Human Rights Concerns

The Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission has initiated an investigation into the situation of two inmates who recently staged a hunger strike at the Naboro Maximum Corrections facility. A team from the Commission visited the inmates to address their concerns.

According to a statement from the Commission, the Fiji Corrections Service informed them that the inmates concluded their hunger strike the previous night. The Commission has confirmed that a medical doctor evaluated the inmates’ health status following the hunger strike.

Additionally, the Fiji Corrections Service has assured that their medical team will carry out regular health assessments to ensure the inmates’ physical well-being during their recovery. The service emphasizes that the welfare of the inmates is a priority and that measures are being implemented to closely monitor their health.
