Fiji Inmates End Hunger Strike: Health Assessments Underway

The Fiji Corrections Service has announced that the two inmates who were on hunger strikes at the Maximum Security Corrections Facility last week have resumed their normal eating habits.

In a statement, the FCS revealed that a medical team performed an assessment on the inmates to ensure they were in stable physical condition after the hunger strike.

The FCS emphasized that the well-being of the inmates is a priority and that they are taking the necessary steps to closely monitor their recovery.

The organization remains dedicated to its fundamental mission of providing safe, secure, and humane treatment for all offenders in their care. This commitment includes focusing on both the physical and mental health of all inmates through regular medical evaluations and consistent access to healthcare services.

The statement also expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the public and stakeholders regarding the rehabilitation and management of offenders, reaffirming their dedication to maintaining high standards of care and safety across all facilities.
