Fiji and Indonesia are enhancing their collaboration to bolster the development of Fiji’s bamboo industry, a partnership that could lead to significant economic and environmental benefits. This teamwork was highlighted during a two-week Training of Trainers program held in Yogyakarta, where Fiji’s Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry, Saimone Tauvoli, expressed gratitude for Indonesia’s ongoing support in this venture.
Tauvoli noted that the training received has established a robust foundation for the growth of Fiji’s bamboo sector. By equipping participants with vital technical skills, the program has transformed them into resource persons prepared to spearhead sustainable development initiatives within their communities. This aligns with Fiji’s broader objectives of environmental sustainability, community empowerment, and economic advancement through the utilization of bamboo.
He underscored that the collaboration with Indonesia transcends mere training; it focuses on developing strong systems, fortifying institutions, and fostering economic opportunities at the grassroots level. Tauvoli identified bamboo as a strategic resource that could significantly contribute to forestry and rural development, particularly in enhancing climate resilience and improving local livelihoods.
The Ministry remains steadfast in its commitment to converting the insights gained from the training into tangible actions, paving the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future for Fiji through its bamboo industry.
