Filmmaker and content creator Reneel Singh has reached a significant milestone with the recent release of his first single, titled “Jungli.” Based in Hamilton, New Zealand, Singh, whose parents hail from Fiji, shared that the creation of “Jungli” was a journey driven by his passion for Fiji Indian culture rather than musical experience.
Reneel explained that his familial roots are deeply embedded in Fiji, with his father from Nadi and his mother from Lautoka. His parents moved to New Zealand before his birth, settling in Rotorua, where he was raised and which remains their home.
Professionally, Reneel operates a videography company that produces content for various events, including weddings and business promotions. However, he has shifted his focus this year to create content that resonates specifically with the Fiji Indian community.
Among his notable achievements is a six-episode web series titled “The Sunny Side of Ngongotaha,” which delves into the experiences of Fiji Indians living in New Zealand. Additionally, Singh is working on several short films, indicating that more projects are on the horizon.
Discussing “Jungli,” he expressed the desire to create a pop anthem for the Fiji Indian community, noting that there was previously no such representation. He emphasized that his aim was not just to sing, but to tell stories and contribute to his community’s cultural narrative.
“This is my first foray into this type of work, and the positive feedback has motivated me to continue creating,” he remarked. Reneel chose to produce a party anthem, recognizing that while Fiji Indians love to celebrate, they lacked an anthem that embodied their spirit.
The song’s title, “Jungli,” comes from a nickname that symbolizes the vibrant energy of the community, embodying a playful and bold identity. The production process took around two years, aided by the tremendous support from the local Fiji Indian community, including family, friends, and fellow creators.
The reception has been overwhelmingly positive, with listeners and viewers praising the engaging visuals, including dynamic dance scenes atop buildings and striking effects at the Sky Tower.
Reneel draws inspiration from the late Michael Jackson for his artistry, admiring how Jackson integrated music with visual storytelling. He acknowledges his parents as his role models, crediting them with instilling the values of hard work and perseverance in him.
With “Jungli” garnering acclaim, Reneel plans to continue his creative endeavors in both music and film. He has several upcoming songs aimed at delivering fresh and exciting content and is also working on short films that highlight various aspects of the Fiji Indian experience, with a potential feature film in mind for the future.
Reneel is committed to pushing his creative boundaries while continuing to celebrate and represent the Fiji Indian community. He attributes the success of his project to the incredible support of the local Fiji Indian community, affirming that this song belongs to everyone who contributed to its realization.
