President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu recently bid farewell to Shri P.S. Karthigeyan, the departing High Commissioner of India to Fiji. During their meeting, President Lalabalavu expressed his gratitude for India’s significant support and contributions toward Fiji’s development.
The President highlighted the enduring bilateral relationship between Fiji and India, which is founded on mutual respect, a shared history, and a common vision for future advancement. He acknowledged important areas where India has positively impacted Fiji, such as the solarization of the State House, a noteworthy initiative aligning with Fiji’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainability.
Additionally, Lalabalavu noted India’s vital contributions to healthcare, including the establishment of a 100-bed Super Specialty Cardiology Hospital that will serve the people of Fiji and benefit the wider Pacific region. He also recognized India’s generous support during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the provision of grants and scholarships that have enabled Fijian students to further their education in India, thus enhancing Fiji’s human capital.
