The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has firmly defended its choice to withhold comments on its ongoing investigation into former journalist Charlie Charters. The commission acknowledged that it would have been inappropriate to make any public statements while the investigation was still active.

In an official statement, the commission clarified that it intentionally avoided issuing any earlier public comments to ensure the integrity of the ongoing inquiries, despite a wave of discussion and speculation prevalent on social media platforms.

“Investigations must be conducted independently and without external influence,” the commission asserted, emphasizing that engaging in public discourse about a live investigation would undermine established investigative protocols. Moreover, it reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its processes as part of its statutory duties.

This stance reflects a broader commitment to transparency while ensuring that investigations remain thorough and free from external pressures, reinforcing the importance of due process in matters of public concern.
