Three hotels in Suva have successfully raised approximately $10,000 during the 2024 Pinktober campaign, demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting cancer awareness and care in Fiji. The Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, and Holiday Inn – all owned by the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) – came together to spearhead this initiative.
Throughout October, these hotels hosted various fundraising events, inviting guests to indulge in activities such as pink-themed cocktails, elegant high teas, pampering spa treatments, and the ‘Cup of Kindness’ coffee initiative. A notable aspect of the campaign was that 10% of all proceeds from these events were dedicated directly to cancer care and awareness programs within Fiji.
Lachlan Walker, the portfolio general manager for IHG, expressed gratitude to everyone who participated in the Pinktober events. He emphasized the profound impact of collective efforts, stating, “The generosity and kindness shown by our guests, colleagues, and community have truly humbled us,” underscoring the importance of community spirit in combating cancer.
The funds raised will be distributed, with half going to the Fiji Cancer Society, and $2,500 each allocated to WOWS Kids Fiji and Cure Kids Fiji. This initiative has not only provided financial support but has also fostered a sense of unity and compassion within the community, highlighting the difference that can be made when people come together for a common cause.
This story aligns with broader global efforts to raise awareness for cancer and encourages continued community participation in health-related initiatives.
Overall, the Pinktober campaign serves as an inspiring example of how hospitality can intersect with philanthropy, creating impactful change in local communities.
