Excitement is soaring among tourism workers as the long-awaited Fiji Hoteliers Tournament returns this Friday, three decades after its last occurrence in 1995. Tournament president Ropate Sigadrodro expressed that the atmosphere is electric, with teams eagerly preparing to reunite for this two-day sporting event.
“This week is incredibly significant for us as we put our all into making this occasion unforgettable, a time to meet, connect, and fortify the bonds among tourism workers,” Sigadrodro stated. He highlighted the impatience of hotel workers, many of whom have not visited Malolo Lailai recently, as they eagerly await their time on the island. The anticipation for the gathering is palpable, with continuous updates shared among workers on social media, marking the countdown to the event.
The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with an estimated 2,000 people expected on the island for the tournament. A total of 37 hotel properties will be participating, showcasing a rich variety of activities through 30 men’s volleyball teams, 28 mixed volleyball teams, 20 mixed netball teams, and 16 women’s volleyball teams.
The competition kicks off this Friday on Plantation Island at Malolo Lailai, promising a vibrant atmosphere filled with enthusiastic competitors and spectators. This tournament not only marks a significant return for the Fiji Hoteliers Tournament but also serves as a celebration of camaraderie and community within the tourism sector.
Similar events, like the Vodafone Nadi International Airport Volleyball Tournament, have demonstrated the growing enthusiasm for sports among local communities in Fiji. The recent tournament attracted 50 organizations and 109 teams, showcasing a vibrant culture that encourages inclusivity and strengthens community ties through sports. The ongoing celebration of sporting events in Fiji, such as the Fijian Cup and the Coral Coast rugby tournaments, reflects a national commitment to fostering sportsmanship, community pride, and a love for athletics.
As anticipation grows for the Fiji Hoteliers Tournament, it embodies the hope and excitement shared by participants and fans alike, creating a sense of community that transcends beyond just the matches played. This is a promising time for Fiji, signaling potential growth in sports tourism and community engagement through shared sporting experiences.
