The fourth South Pacific Darts Championship (SPDC) officially begins today in Fiji, bringing together the best dart players from across the South Pacific to compete in an exhilarating tournament. Teams arrived yesterday, ready to engage in a day filled with competitive action.

The Fiji men’s darts team, under the leadership of manager Maciu Seru and national coach Alan Veeran, has dedicated significant effort to prepare for this championship. They have been focusing on enhancing their scoring abilities, checkout strategies, and statistical analysis with support from volunteer observers.

“We’ve been addressing our weaknesses and refining strategies,” Seru shared, reflecting on the team’s preparation. “Our strong mix of experienced players and emerging talents has made training intense but also strengthened our bonds, making us ready for the competition.”

While the timeline for preparation was challenging, Seru expresses confidence in the team’s capabilities. The support received from sponsor Extra Supermarket, alongside the contributions of the local darting community, has been invaluable. “The funding from our sponsors was timely and the dart community has provided incredible support by helping with statistics and planning,” he remarked.

With aspirations to improve on their sixth-place finish from the previous SPDC, the Fiji team is determined to challenge the defending champions, the Cook Islands. “As hosts, we’ve left no stone unturned in our quest for the title,” Seru stated, highlighting their commitment to the competition.

Beyond the competitive aspect, this championship also serves as an opportunity to elevate the sport of darts in Fiji. Seru believes that impressive performances by the national teams could inspire more Fijians to take up darts, promoting wider participation in the sport.

In summary, the 2025 SPDC not only presents an opportunity for competition but also showcases Fiji’s increasing prominence in the darts arena. With a blend of seasoned players and newcomers, the Championship represents a hopeful step forward for the sport’s development and community engagement in Fiji.
