The Fiji Law Society is all set to host the 2nd Pasefika Lawyers Collective (PLC) Conference, coinciding with its annual Convention at the Crowne Plaza Resort & Spa, Wailoaloa Beach, Nadi, on October 30-31, 2025. The event is expected to attract around 300 delegates, including judges, legal practitioners, policymakers, academics, and representatives from civil society, all uniting under the theme “Embracing Change: The Future of Law in the Pacific.”
This two-day conference will feature a rich program comprising keynote speeches, panel discussions, and technical workshops focusing on several critical issues. The agenda includes constitutional resilience and sovereignty, innovative access to justice and legal aid, the rule of law, political accountability, the impacts of artificial intelligence and digital transformation on legal practices, transnational crime, and aspirations for a unified Pacific regional court.
The opening keynote will be delivered by the Honourable Filimone Jitoko, Speaker of the Parliament of Fiji. Attendees will hear from distinguished speakers and panelists from various nations, including Uganda, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand, and Australia, highlighting a diverse array of perspectives and expertise.
The PLC stands as a collective of lawyers of Pacific heritage, established in 2023 to foster collaboration among legal professionals and celebrate diversity in the legal field. The first PLC conference took place in Samoa, and incorporating this conference into Fiji’s annual convention underscores the nation’s commitment to advancing regional legal development.
This event is not only an opportunity for professional dialogues but also emphasizes the necessity for Pacific legal institutions to unite in addressing shared challenges, be it in governance, digital disruption, or ensuring equitable access to justice. With Fiji’s established reputation as a regional legal hub, the conference promises substantial professional exchange and networking prospects.
The event is made possible through partnerships with several organizations, including the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Pacific Justice Sector Programme, and major sponsors like BSP Life, Fiji Airways, and Fiji Water. Interested participants can still register through ticketmax.com.fj, ensuring a platform for engagement and collaboration in navigating the evolving landscape of law in the Pacific.
Fiji is increasingly positioned as a vital center for legal discourse in the region, with prior efforts showcasing its capacity to convene significant discussions among legal practitioners and lawmakers, further reinforcing regional ties and collaborative opportunities.
