Fiji Heavy Rain Warning in Effect: Widespread Rain, Thunderstorms and Flash Flood Risk Across the Islands

Weather Update from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi

Good evening, fellow Fijians! Grab your umbrellas and galoshes because it seems like our weather has decided to take a leisurely dip in the rain pool.

A heavy rain warning is currently in effect for the entire Fiji group. A pesky trough of low pressure has made itself comfortable over us, bringing along its entourage of clouds, showers, and the occasional thunderstorm—because who wouldn’t want a little dramatic flair? This weather saga is expected to linger until later tomorrow, so let’s just say you might want to keep your raincoat on standby.

Tonight and tomorrow: Expect frequent to continuous bouts of rain. Yes, heavy at times, with thunderstorms adding some excitement! As the sun makes a half-hearted attempt to peek through tomorrow, the rain will gradually ease to mere showers. So, think of it as nature’s way of reminding us to appreciate the sunshine when it does decide to grace us with its presence!

Winds will be doing a little dance, blowing moderately from the southeast to the northeast, while the seas will also be moderate—just enough for the fish to enjoy a spirited swim!

Now, looking ahead to Thursday, we foresee a glorious shift! We might finally get to enjoy some fine weather—except for brief afternoon or evening showers in certain areas, like Serua-Namosi and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. It’ll be strong enough to keep the sunscreen company in business!

Here’s what you can expect tomorrow and the outlook for Thursday in various regions:

For Navua, Suva, and Nausori: Expect rain, with occasional thundering guests! Minimum temperature of 22°C and a maximum of 27°C. Thursday brings a chance of fine weather, with a nice warm max of 29°C.

Calling Sigatoka and Coral Coast: Brace for rain too, along with a splash of thunderstorms. Minimum will be 23°C and maximum 28°C. Thursday? A beautiful day (probably sporting sunglasses) with highs reaching 30°C.

For Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba: More rain expected! Minimum of 23°C, max 28°C, with Thursday promising a fine convertible day with a high of 31°C.

Tavua and Rakiraki will share the stormy spotlight; same temperatures with the promise of slight improvements on Thursday.

A wave hello to Yasawa and Mamanuca with similar rain patterns, yet managing a lovely 32°C on Thursday.

Labasa, Savusavu, and those in the Nabouwalu bubble—your rain umbrellas are still in use! Temperatures will float around 22°C to 29°C with a promising Thursday on the horizon.

Over in Taveuni, expect brief showers but also great weather on Thursday; temperature highs can reach 30°C.

Even our friends in the Lau and Lomaiviti group, and the lovely island of Kadavu, won’t escape those rain clouds—but they’ll enjoy some sunshine as the week goes on.

Finally, for our friends in Rotuma: You’ve got occasional rain and thunderstorms too. But Thursday teases with a drier spell, hitting a cozy high of 33°C.

So, dear citizens, whether you’re dancing in the rain or eyeing the sun peeking from behind the clouds, stay tuned because when it comes to Fiji’s weather, it’s always an adventure!
