Fiji Heavy Rain Warning in Effect for Yasawa, Eastern Viti Levu, Northern Division, Lau and Kadavu with Flood Risk

Weather Alert

Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre at 7:30 PM on Sunday, November 16, 2025

Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A heavy rain warning is still in effect for Yasawa, the eastern side of Viti Levu (yes, that includes Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra), the Northern Division, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and those charming little islands nearby. Don’t forget to check out the Special Weather Bulletin if you want the nitty-gritty details: https://www.met.gov.fj/alerts/

What’s happening? A sluggish trough of low pressure is lounging over Fiji like it’s at a beach resort. Thanks to this lazy weather system, you can expect plenty of clouds, showers, and rain to keep us company until tomorrow.

Forecast until midnight for Fijians: Get ready for occasional to periodic rain, which might get heavy enough to break out the swim goggles. Think of it as the earth having a refreshing drink! Thunderstorms might pop in to say hello over Yasawa, the eastern chunks of Viti Levu, the Northern Division, Lau and Lomaiviti group, Kadavu, and some of those smaller islands. By tomorrow, the rain is expected to calm down to just showers—so there’s light at the end of the rain tunnel!

With all this moisture, localized heavy rainfall might sneak up on those low-lying and flood-prone areas, so keep an eye out. Elsewhere, expect a partly cloudy sky with some cheeky afternoon or evening showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

Winds will be a moderate to fresh breeze from the northeast to southeast, giving a gentle reminder that only Mother Nature can throw a hissy fit like this. And don’t forget about those moderate to rough seas; they’re definitely feeling “moody” too!

Outlook for Tuesday: There’s some hope! Showers are still expected over the eastern half of Viti Levu and the eastern bits of Vanua Levu. It won’t be a complete washout, as we may enjoy some fine weather elsewhere—with, of course, the classic afternoon or evening showers and some isolated thunderstorms looking to crash the party.

For our friends in Rotuma:

So gear up, take shelter where you can, and don’t forget to enjoy those cozy indoor moments while the sky plays its symphony!
